EPMPOA Hosts Wellness Benefit Event at Police Academy

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association is hosting a Wellness Benefit Fundraiser at 7 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the El Paso Police Academy, 2300 Scenic Drive. The event will feature dinner and a silent auction, plus demonstrations by SWAT, the Bomb Squad, and the Combined Search and Rescue Team and more.

3 New Mexico Officers Shot, 1 Injured In Albuquerque

Three Albuquerque police officers were shot and another was injured while responding to a robbery, authorities said Thursday. Police Chief Harold Medina said one of the officers was hit in the chest above his bulletproof vest and was listed in critical condition. One officer was shot in the arm and another was saved when he was struck in the vest.

A former El Paso police officer pleaded guilty on Monday of helping her stepfather distribute and store cocaine while she was on the job. According to court documents, Monica Garcia, 24, conspired with Fred Saenz, her stepfather and co-defendant, to use Saenz’s residence to distribute cocaine.
El Paso firefighters, police officers train for rescues at McKelligon Canyon

El Paso first responders took part in a training exercise at McKelligon Canyon on Wednesday. 30 firefighters and 10 police officers took part in the rescue training behind the amphitheater. Crews practiced using a rope system to help raise people out of areas and lower them down the mountain safely.

Update: 2 EPPD officers injured in Lower Valley crash

Two El Paso Police Department officers were injured in a crash in the Lower Valley on Monday night. Both of the injured officers are two-year veterans of the department. One of the officers had minor injuries and the passenger officer in the car fractured his femur and was admitted to Del Sol Medical Center. KTSM.

Special Traffic Investigations was called last night to North Loop and Lancaster on a two-vehicle collision involving a marked police vehicle. Investigators learned a full-crew police unit was traveling east at the 9100 block of North Loop Dr., responding to a call for service. 26 –year old Jonathan Herrera was northbound on Lancaster Dr. in a 2005 Dodge Magnum.

The El Paso City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to approve a deal with the Public Service Board to transfer 306 acres of land in Northeast El Paso for the construction of the city’s new fire and police academy. It will be a joint facility for both departments, including a fire department headquarters and a fire vehicle maintenance and logistics center.

The Las Cruces Police Department said they need more officers to fight crime, but over the past couple years, applications have been lacking. LCPD Lieutenant Jeremy Story told KFOX14 the department is 60 officers short of being fully staffed. This does not include the upcoming officers who are getting ready to retire.

Detroit PD denied academy entry to former El Paso officer accused of sexual assault

A former El Paso Police Department officer accused of sexually assaulting two women was denied entry into the Detroit Police Department Academy. A spokeswoman for the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners confirmed that an individual named Abderrazak Boukhatmi was denied entry into the Detroit Police Academy in 2015.
